McMillen Jacobs Associates is seeking a senior Mechanical Superintendent to join our growing team. The right candidate will have knowledge of steel fabrication, setting gates/valves, setting pumps and commissioning pumps, and an overall knowledge of tight tolerances and how to work within those tolerances. This position requires 100% travel. The company expects long-term work opportunities in Idaho, Oregon, Washington, California, Arizona and other states in the western region.
Responsibilities:
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the contract documents including Owner/Client contract, drawings and specifications, contract schedule and companies commitments associated with such documents.
- Provide upfront involvement with constructability reviews, work plan preparation, equipment and manpower requirements necessary to complete the work on schedule and within budget.
- Ensure job safety requirements are understood and implemented by all project personnel, including sub-contractors.
- Watch for and correct all safety hazards at the jobsite. Report all safety related incidents to Site Safety Health Officer and/or Environmental Health and Safety Director.
- Demonstrate commitment to an injury free work place through own actions and mentoring others.
- Direct day to day on site supervision of the field labor force including foreman, sub-contractors, and other construction related personnel.
- Ability to communicate with employees and subcontractors, good working relationship with employees, subs, clients, (good attitude, etc.)
- Coordinate construction activities performed by employees, subcontractors, third party inspections, etc.
- Coordinate work flow consistent with the project schedule and communicate project priorities to PM and subcontractors.
- Manage schedules, including preparation of detailed short-term schedules, forecasting resource requirements (manpower, materials, equipment...etc.).
- Prepare and submit Superintendents daily reports to document weather and field conditions, employee and sub-contractor man power, progress and conditions impacting the project, as well as time cards, accident reports, quality reports, etc.
- Direct, coordinate, and facilitate meetings for employees and subcontractors.
- Understand subcontractors and suppliers contract scopes of work.
- Schedule and procure tools and equipment as necessary for the project.
- Proficient in understanding the project plans and specifications.
- Verify that all work is installed in a workmanlike manner per the plans and specifications. (ie, plumb, level, straight, etc.)
- Understands means and methods of construction.
Required Experience, Education, Licenses and/or Certifications:
- 10-15 years experience as a mechanical superintendent.
- Overall knowledge of tight tolerances and how to work within those tolerances.
- Familiarity with the requirements of the contract drawings and specifications and with terms and conditions of project contracts.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong management skills.
- Strong ability to read and understand drawings and specifications.
- Background in heavy civil construction with comprehensive knowledge in concrete, earthwork, pipeline work, construction surveying, heavy equipment and dewatering.
- Exhibits strong leadership qualities.
- Strong decision making / problems solving skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Is proactive, plans well and addresses problems promptly.
- Is committed to doing quality work the first time with little or no need for re-work.
- Works to meet or beat schedules and is driven to bring closure to avoid long punch lists.
