The construction claims group at McMillen Jacobs Associates has an immediate opening for a Claims Office Engineer based in our Bay Area offices. The candidate will support our backlog of claims and delay analysis assignments for projects in the Northern California region and our other offices and assist with marketing our services to clients.

Ideal candidate will have 5 to 10 years construction experience working for a contractor, consultant, or owner on public works infrastructure or building projects.


  • BS degree, or higher, in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
  • Professional engineering licensing or certification preferred
  • 5 to 10 years contractor or construction management, or owner experience with emphasis in project management, change management, scheduling, and cost control
  • Claims experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Technical Skills

  • General knowledge of the design and construction industry and familiarity with construction-related job records.
  • Ability to review and analyze construction drawings and specifications for relevant topics
  • Review and analyze construction documents for entitlement issues.
  • Knowledge of critical path method scheduling, including familiarity with contract scheduling specifications and delay analysis techniques required.
  • Conduct and apply technical research regarding treatises and legal precedents
  • Communicate with CADD and graphics technicians to produce drawings and sketches that convey analysis
  • Ability to analyze and develop finding on construction costs

Software Utilization

  • Supervise others or directly develop and analyze schedules with Primavera P6
  • Develop presentation graphics for Power Point presentations
  • Develop spreadsheets and graphs using Microsoft excel using cost, man-hour, rate of production, and other data

Organizational Skills

  • Sort megabits of electronic construction documents by type, date, and subject
  • Review select documents, develop chronology summaries, and set forth written summary and rational as to whether a change is justified or not
  • Create indexes of documents, sometimes with Bates Stamp numbers.
