We have an opening for a Site Safety Officer with strong Infrastructure and Heavy Civil experience to join our growing construction division. The Site Safety Officer will oversee and manage all aspects of a project-specific safety program on complex construction projects. The person selected for this role will assist project and safety management in the development and execution of McMillen Jacobs Associates health and safety standard in accordance with OSHA regulations, governing safety authorities, site-specific safety plans, client needs, and project goals in a manner that supports and builds on our SEE Safety In Action culture to achieve our goal of zero-incidents.


  • Ensure safety and health policies and procedures are being adhered to in accordance with OSHA, state, and local regulations, and the Site-Specific Safety Plan.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure that health and safety activities are incorporated effectively into project work plans.
  • Provide oversight to subcontractors, clients, and project team members to ensure that project activities are completed according to applicable the Site-Specific Safety Plan
  • Maintain open communication with Construction Safety Manager and support the Safety Leadership Team in achieving safety performance metrics
  • Identify and conduct field safety trainings including project safety orientation
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, documenting findings, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ensure emergency response systems, policies and procedures are in place to manage emergency situations.
  • Provide mentoring, direction, and subject matter expertise to Superintendent, Foreman, supervisors and craft.
  • Review JHA's and work plans to with project management and supervision to ensure thorough hazard identification and controls are in place
  • Communicate effectively with representatives of regulatory agencies/customers to resolve compliance issues and provide requested information.
  • Conduct incident investigations and associated documentation accurately and thoroughly, conducting root cause analysis and lessons learned.
  • Manage Return to Work and Modified Duty program
  • Champion our SEE Safety In Action philosophy to achieve zero-incident project completion


  • Minimum of 3 years proven experience and success as a site safety officer
  • OSHA Construction 30 Hour, required
  • CHST certification preferred
  • Current EM-385-1-1 certificate preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field preferred, or equivalent experience
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification
  • Experience and understanding of the safety and health standards and requirements for heavy civil construction including: Excavation and Trenching, Rigging and Cranes, Accident Investigation, Hazard Communication, Scaffold Safety, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Hazardous Materials (Lead, Asbestos, Silica), Working over Water, Electrical Safety, Lockout Tagout, Respiratory
  • Well versed in legal health and safety guidelines
  • Ability to problem solve and implement hazard mitigation solutions in challenging work environments
  • Excellent communication skill, both written and verbal, to articulate ideas, solutions, needs, and requirements to all levels of employees and to external parties as required.
  • Exceptional organizational and motivational skills
  • Keen attention to detail and observation ability
  • Proficient with technology and Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) with the ability to learn and adapt to new software and applications as needed
  • Willingness to travel and/or be location-based for extended periods of time
