McMillen Jacobs Associates' Auckland office is looking for a Structural Engineer with 5 to 10 years of relevant experience, preferably in designing underground or heavy civil structures. This position will work directly with our engineering team to deliver design and construction engineering services on various underground transportation, marine, wastewater and water resource projects in New Zealand and Australia.

Responsibilities:

  • Structural design, analysis and reporting.
  • Reinforced concrete and steel design.
  • Seismic design.
  • Assist with tunnel and shaft structure designs and temporary works design .
  • Review contractor construction submittals for conformance with structural design requirements.
  • Field observation/inspection/documentation of construction for conformance with structural design requirements and intent.
  • Work in a variety of office and field environments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) or Masters of Engineering with a structural emphasis.
  • Experience in concrete and steel design to Australian Standards including AS3600 and AS5100.
  • Ability to develop and review designs, drawings, specifications, and technical memoranda/reports.
  • Knowledge of underground excavation, ground support and permanent lining construction methods would be considered advantageous.
  • Strong experience in using software for structural analysis (e.g., Strand7)
  • Structural design experience for ground support, tunnel linings, retaining walls and/or shafts would be an advantage.
  • AutoCAD experience would be an advantage but not essential.
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills (fluent in English for both spoken and written).
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills are essential.
  • New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident
