McMillen Jacobs Associates is looking for a Project Engineer with 5 or more years of construction management experience in sewer, pipeline or other underground construction. Position would be construction site based on one or more major underground infrastructures projects in Auckland.  

Responsibilities:

  • Advise the Client on all critical project tasks and risks and troubleshoot project issues
  • Review, prioritise, and recommend responses to field paperwork, to include;
    • Requests for Information (RFIs)
    • Contractor Submittals and Requests for Substitution
    • Construction Programmes
    • Quality Reports and Logs
    • Agendas and Meeting Minutes
    • Change Management Logs
    • Safety Plans and Safety Audits
    • Quality Plans, Quality Audits and Non-conformance Reports (NCRs)
  • Investigations and documentation for construction claims
  • Oversee and schedule quality assurance inspections of the Contractor's work
  • Interact with all Contractors/ Subcontractors performing the work and maintain a professional relationship with them to administer the construction contract with a focus on safety and quality.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with the Client and/or Owner to provide progress information, prioritize items requiring engineering review, owner guidance, and issue resolution.
  • Perform other tasks as deemed necessary to facilitate the construction oversight/management.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Civil Engineering, Construction Project Management or other related construction field, or with geotechnical engineering emphasis.
  • 3-5 years' experience with infrastructure water main, gas main, and/or sewer main installation and inspection; utility relocations; sidewalk and roadway restoration or replacement; and landscape restorations is preferred.
  • Experience in tunnelling, trenchless, and shaft construction is preferred.
  • Ability to manage several concurrent assignments and priorities, and supervise, train, and mentor office personnel, including Office Engineer, Community Liaison, staff engineers, and inspection staff.
  • Strong team building, analytical and technical communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency and versed in Microsoft Office, including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point.
  • Experience reading contract drawings and specifications.
  • Willingness to work on dynamic construction sites with diligent adherence to safety requirements and standards.
  • Willingness to work swing or night shifts or overtime hours when needed during Contract work (eligible for additional compensation).
